Magazines and the lure of those glossy pages…
Trashy celebrity gossip, over rated fashion and ridiculous waste of money or really fantastic journalism, beautiful fashion and award winning photography… where do you stand?
I confess, I have wasted many a penny that could have been used toward bus fare or dinner on the glossy promise of the Prada coated pages of Vogue. The ever allure of Kate Moss’ ‘edge’ staring back at me. That impending excitement and sheer joy of stumbling upon Tim Walker’s imagination within its leaves, whimsical and as off the wall as the Mad Hatter himself. Little crisp waxy papers of glamour and inspiration, designer darlings and the stuff of icons. The latest restaurant to see and be seen, new perfumes to rub between ones wrists, scented between grand design and the best of the best of what’s hot. Ahhh… the allure of a good magazine…
Not all mags are the same, there are those like Vogue or Vanity Fair and there are those that are destined for the coffee tables of dentists’ waiting rooms. Essentials or Grazia are a waste of time even at R25 an issue and as my Sister points out; 4 Grazia’s equal 1 Vogue… you’re welcome!
The cost of buying magazines that are most likely going to end up in the SPCA can add up. When I am eating salty cracks and tightening up the purse strings, mags are the first to be scratched off the budget. So you can imagine my excitement when stumbling upon a fabulous magazine called “Stylist” which is a great read, on trend and delivered right to my Newsstand once a week. That is to say, download it to your phone and happy scrolling…
It is simple, current, fun to read and the witty Lucy Mangan’s articles are always delicious. Go and take a look http://www.stylist.co.uk/, download it to your device and feel the glee when you get that weekly notification…fabulous and free!
