For those of you who are familiar with my blog, I hope you enjoy the new revamp. For those of you who aren’t, I hope you take a look around…
I just watched Anna Wintour’s 73 questions on the Vogue videos series (watch here) and when asked to write down the one fashion word she wished everyone would stop using; she scribbled the word “journey” on a piece of paper. I’m not entirely sure how this fits into a fashion context but if Anna doesn’t think it’s cool then I’m certainly not going to bore you with my blogging journey! Instead I thought I would share a few things that blogging has taught me in my first few months of this exciting journey…*Ahem… I mean adventure.
Setting goals and sticking to them! Setting time aside and putting energy and focus into getting something done without procrastinating. I have off days, that’s okay, we’re not robots. Just get back on the horse ASAP. Blogging is helping me get better at not making excuses.
Hard work = Great Reward
I very quickly discovered that blogging was no walk in the park, romantic, sitting on a front porch with a typewriter sipping on an iced tea! It takes time effort and hard work. From thinking up ideas, trying to come up with relevant and interesting content. Then writing your post in an honest and refreshing way, whilst faffing about with photography when it’s been raining all week and you have no light, can be a huge challenge. When you click that publish button and gain yourself a couple readers, it is incredibly rewarding. When I have tough times where I can’t be arsed, I think of that rewarding feeling, it is a great motivator to get stuck in.
I have discovered a whole community out there that I didn’t realise existed – a blogging one. I love taking a gander through Bloglovin’ and am always blown away at how much talent there is out there. I find it hugely inspiring and love being involved in discussions about topics that interest me as well as checking out the work of hard working creative people. It is also refreshing to find a large majority of this community incredibly positive and supportive. I’ve started making a few friends scattered as far as Australia and Korea. We live in interesting and exciting times and I am learning how great it is to be a part of this vibrant and crazy world through blogging.
Blogging is teaching me that when I am positive and think in a positive frame of mind my work and my world around me is more…well…positive. I can choose how I look at a situation and seeking the good rather than the bad always has a better outcome because it boils down how you perceive something, even if it’s not going your way. Concerning yourself with what others may think is a waste of time and I am learning to distance myself from negative people, environments and thought patterns. When I do; life seems easier and more fulfilling. So make like Swifty ‘shake it off’ and look for the good stuff, there’s plenty of it out there!
Being yourself and being true to yourself is vital. With all the talent out there, it’s easy to get bogged down with not feeling competent enough. If I carried on feeling that way I would probably be sitting in a corner clutching my knees rocking back and forth by now, it’s exhausting and it will never make you successful. Revel in your uniqueness and be true to you. I know what you’re thinking… “I need some crackers with all this cheese” but it’s true my friends… Focus on being the best you that you can be and you’ll be better for it.
I have also learnt that sometimes we need a little bit of help! I decided that I wanted a blog space that was clean, simple, visually appealing and was more of a reflection of myself. Now, I may be able to write about shoes till the cows come home or Karl Lagerfeld’s latest collection for Chanel in a Bistro setting, which by the way looks incredible, you have to check it out… (here), but I am somewhat challenged in the art of Web and Graphic design. A huge thank you goes out to the lovely Nadia van der Mescht and team, including the talented Nicola Tweed. I couldn’t be happier that I made an inquiry! I had a vague idea about how I wanted my blog to look and where I wanted to take it but she really helped bring that to life and has given me great direction. It has been such a fun and exciting process and I have no doubt I’ll be calling on her for consultations in the future. Her site is gorgeous, she’s super professional, does workshops and knows her stuff. If you want to take your business or brand to the next level, I would highly recommend!
